Hair transplant in Turkey: what to expect
Thinking about a hair transplant in Turkey? Here is what actually happens, from the first photos you send to the day your new hair grows in.
Is a hair transplant right for you?
A hair transplant moves hair from the back and sides of your head, where it usually keeps growing, to the areas that are thinning. It works best for pattern hair loss that has settled down, with enough healthy hair at the back to move.
Not everyone is a good fit. If your hair loss is still changing quickly, or the donor area is thin, a good doctor may suggest waiting or trying other options first. That is a sign of an honest clinic, not a bad one.
FUE and DHI, in plain words
- FUE: individual follicles are taken one by one and placed into small openings made in the thinning area.
- DHI: follicles are loaded into a pen-like tool and placed directly, without opening the channels first. It can allow very precise placement.
- Both leave tiny marks at the back that are usually hidden once hair grows. The doctor recommends the method that suits your hair.
Before you travel
- Send clear photos of the front, top, sides and back of your head.
- The clinic’s doctor assesses them and tells you what is realistic for you.
- Tell the doctor about any medication or health conditions, especially blood thinners.
- Follow the clinic’s advice on alcohol and smoking in the days before.
On the day
The procedure is done under local anaesthetic, so you are awake but should not feel pain once the area is numb. It usually takes most of the day, with breaks. Most people go back to their hotel the same evening.
The first two weeks
- Some redness, small scabs and swelling are normal.
- The clinic shows you how and when to wash your hair. Follow it closely.
- Avoid heavy exercise, direct sun and swimming for as long as the clinic advises.
- Sleep with your head raised for the first few nights.
When will you see results?
Most of the transplanted hairs fall out in the first weeks. This is normal: the roots stay in place and start growing new hair after a few months.
Growth builds gradually. Many people see a real difference at around six months, with the full result usually taking about a year, sometimes longer.
